The Art of
Inspired by homemade, Vero Gusto sauce is made near Barilla’s home, in Parma Italy.
There's no added sugar*. No preservatives. No GMO ingredients. No shortcuts. Just truly great sauces.
Slow Sauté start
You might think that pasta sauce starts with tomatoes. But in Italy, great sauces begin by preparing a soffritto: a flavorful base of garlic, onions, and carrots sautéed with a generous amount of 100% Extra Virgin Olive Oil over low heat until they caramelize, releasing their natural sugars and giving the sauce a base of rich, umami flavor.
Combine with 100% pure Italian tomatoes.
A great sauce needs great tomatoes. In our sauces we use 100% Italian tomatoes, most of which are sourced from the Parma region, the very same area where Vero Gusto sauces are made. The short distance the tomatoes travel guarantees their best possible flavor.
Add carefully selected, Italian-grown ingredient.
With the tomatoes simmering, we add the stars of our sauces: the signature regional ingredient. With distinct, authentic flavors like Genovese Basil and Calabrian Chili, these ingredients were selected to inspire creativity when cooking Italian cuisine.
Finish with a long, slow simmer.
Just like when chefs prepare a homemade sauce, we finish each batch with a slow simmer. This extended cook time allows the sauce to thicken and further develops its flavors. And because it’s on a low heat, it preserves the flavor of each ingredient, giving them time to mingle and balance with each other until they are just right.
